In the Gospel of Saint Luke we read this passage: "after sunset all who had friends who were sick with various diseases brought them to Jesus; He placed His hands on every one of them and healed them all" (Luke 4:40). As Jesus went through Galilee healing the sick, He empowered his disciples to do likewise, saying, "go and preach, 'The Kingdom of heaven is near" (Matthew 10:7).
