Construction Update

As of this month, construction is over 50% complete and there are anywhere from 50-75 workers on the site every day.  On the exterior of the building, stucco application has been mostly completed with a majority of windows installed.  Concrete sidewalks are being poured and roadways and parking lots asphalted. The glass for the facade of the structure will be delivered the beginning of May, and in June the mosaic of the Archangel Michael will be installed over the main entrance.

On the interior, partitions are going up between the various rooms/spaces and sheet rocking has begun now that wiring and piping has been pretty much completed.

Heartfelt appreciation to the following for their

magnanimous pledges/donations to the expansion:

Faith & George Drapan – Independent Living One-Bedroom Apartment (2nd Pledge)

Barbara & Konstantinos Kostakis – Assisted Living Studio Bedroom

Helen &Warren Herz – Seraphim

Group Tours

Everyone who visits the site and sees what is going on, is "blown away" by the magnitude of the project and what the new facility will offer our seniors. For this reason, after Pascha, parishes, Philoptochos chapters, societies and other organizations will be able to arrange a “group visit” to the site as construction continues, so that visitors can see firsthand what is envisioned in this magnificent state-of-the-art continuum care facility.

Board members, Lily Katos and Maria Skiadas, are graciously coordinating these tours which can be arranged for either a Thursday afternoon between 2-4 pm or a Saturday between 11am-1pm. There should be at least 5 members in your group so as to justify the intrusion on the construction crew.

Please keep in mind that this is a construction site, so people should dress accordingly, especially with appropriate shoes and able to navigate uneven terrain, stairs, etc. Beforehand you MUST contact Lily (917-817-5387- [email protected]) or Maria (646-996-3363 - [email protected]) to arrange the tour!

When Will the New Facility Open?

We are often asked when the new facility will open. Now that construction has accelerated, hopefully it will open the first half of 2024, but this is contingent on the “supply-chain” and above all, on the availability of resources to keep the construction moving at the current pace. Because of historic inflation, especially in the construction industry which is between 15%-20%, an increase of about $6,000,000 has been added to the final cost of the project.

NOW IS THE TIME to participate in the Capital Campaign by making a donation in one of the Levels of Giving and/or remaining Naming Opportunities so as to assure that the necessary resources are available to keep the construction moving at the current pace.

A Blessed and Joyous Pascha!

St. Michael’s takes this opportunity to convey heartfelt gratitude to our friends and magnanimous supporters for your generous assistance whether it be to the expansion or to support the current facility in Yonkers which depends on the boarding fees residents are able to pay and donations to meet its operating expenses.

May the balance of this Lenten Season be edifying, and everyone at the Home wishes you and yours a blessed and joyous Pascha filled with the abundant blessings of the Risen Lord Who out of His great love for us freely offered Himself for our salvation.
