  1. Eligibility: Every individual, regardless of her/his religious tradition, is eligible to enter the The Orthodox Christian Initiative for Building Interfaith Dialogue contest (“Contest”). Only legal residents of the 50 United States of America, and the District of Columbia, are eligible to enter the Contest. Entrants who are under 18 years of age at time of entry must have the permission of a parent or legal guardian (“Parent/Guardian”) to participate in the Contest. A Parent/Guardian must complete the registration form for a minor’s entry to be valid.  Entry information provided by children under age thirteen (13) will be destroyed upon receipt. Void where prohibited and subject to all applicable laws and regulations. Entrants must fulfill all requirements set forth in the Official Rules and abide by all decisions of the Greek Orthodox Department of Inter-Orthodox, Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations (“Sponsor”) in order to be eligible for a prize.
  2. How to Enter: Eligible individuals (“Contestants”) must submit an original video, photo, or Master of Arts thesis that best articulates and captures the Orthodox’ Church’s commitment to interfaith cooperation and dialogue using the following criteria:
    • Original Video expressing the importance of Orthodoxy’s dialogue with other faiths (60-90 seconds);
    • Original Photography capturing the essence of interfaith dialogue from an Orthodox Christian perspective;
    • M.A. thesis that focuses on the relationship between Orthodoxy and other religious traditions (submitted and defended from 2012-2017).
    • Entrants must submit – with their video, photo, or MA thesis – a brief description of his/her submission (500-700 words), their personal information including name, address, and contact details, the category under which the submission falls, and how the project may help advance interfaith dialogue.
    • Contestants must email their submissions to [email protected] with the following subject line: “Interfaith Dialogue: [Contestant’s Last Name]”
    • By submitting an entry, applicants agree to the terms and conditions (click here to review).
    • By uploading a video, photo, or MA thesis, you represent that you have complied with the submission guidelines and content restrictions as specified in these Official Rules.  Limit one submission per Contestant.
  3. Contest Submission:  Submissions must meet the following requirements:  (i) the Submission must be an original creation by the Contestant; (ii) video submissions must be provided in one of the following file formats: .MOV, .MPEG4, MP4, .AVI, .WMV, .MPEGPS, .FLV, 3GPP, or WebM; (iii) photo submissions must be provided in one of the following file formats: .JPEG, .BMP, or .PNG; (iv) the MA thesis submissions must be provided in one of the following file formats: .DOC, .DOCX, or .PDF; (v) the Submission may not exceed 300mb in size; (vi) the Submission must not violate any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property laws or rights of any third party, and must be accompanied by a talent or other appropriate release from anyone appearing in the Submission; (vii) the Contestant must own all rights to the Submission, including but not limited to copyright, trademark, and publicity rights; and (viii) Contestant must have the legal right and any and all permissions necessary to submit the Submission. Contest may use Only those entries and Submissions meeting all the requirements will be eligible for judging.
    • In the event your Submission is chosen as the potential Prize winner, you may be required to resubmit your original Submission, if available, in a higher resolution format, to Sponsor within seventy-two (72) hours of first attempted notification, as more fully set forth in the “Winner Notification/Requirements” section below.
    • False or deceptive entries or acts, as determined by Sponsor, will render the entrant ineligible.  Entries that include lewd, inappropriate, defamatory, (including but not limited to words or symbols that are widely considered offensive to individuals of a certain race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic group), threats to any person, place, business, group or world peace, or that invade the privacy or other rights of any person, firm or entity, or that in any other way violate applicable laws and regulations will render the entrant ineligible. These rules are subject to the interpretation of Sponsor. All decisions are final.
    • By submitting, you grant to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, in perpetuity, a royalty-free license and the absolute and irrevocable right and permission to use and publish the Submission for any lawful purpose including, without limitation, trade, exhibition, illustration, promotion, publicity, advertising, and electronic publication.
    • All costs of materials, creation and entry of the Submission are the responsibility of the Contestant. 
  4. Entry Period:The Entry Period begins on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) and ends on Thursday, September 21st, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. ET (the "Entry Submission Deadline").  Entries received after the Entry Submission Deadline or outside the Contest Period are void.  All entries must be received by Sponsor on or before Entry Submission Deadline as determined by Sponsor’s clock. 
    • Determination of Winner:A panel of Judges, appointed by Sponsor in their sole discretion, will decide the winner for each Division.  They will judge the video entries on the basis of content (60%) and presentation (40%).  Contestants will be ranked in each Division according to the total points they receive from the Judges, with the Contestant who receives the highest number of points in each Division being the first prize winner of said Division.  The Judges’ score sheets will be available upon request.
    • Odds of Winning Odds of winning depend on the total combined number of eligible entries received. 
  5. Winner Notification/Requirements: The potential Winners will be notified via email or telephone on or before October 20th, 2017.  The potential Prize winners may be required to sign and return to Sponsor, within seven (7) days of the date notice or attempted notice is sent, a General Release & Waiver, Publicity Release, and Prize Disbursement in the form or forms provided by Sponsor (where and to the extent legally permissible) in order to claim the Prize.  A Prize must be claimed within ten (10) days of the initial Prize notification to the potential winner, or the Prize will be forfeited.  If a potential Prize winner cannot be contacted, or fails to sign and return the applicable General Release & Waiver and/or Publicity Release within the required time period noted above, the potential Winner can be disqualified and forfeits the Prize.  If not disqualified, the potential Prize winner must continue to comply with all terms and conditions of these Official Rules, and winning and awarding of the Prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements.  Failure to comply with these requirements, return of Prize notification or Prize as undeliverable, or disqualification of any potential winner for any reason may result in forfeiture of Prize, and the Judges will select an alternate winner.  If, after selection of three (3) consecutive alternate potential winners, no alternate winner qualifies to receive the Prize, then the Prize will remain un-awarded.
    • If any potential Prize winner is a minor in his/her state of residence, as a condition to receipt of a Prize, the minor’s Parent/Guardian must sign and timely submit the required General Release & Waiver and, where permitted by law, Publicity Release and Prize Disbursement on behalf of the minor, and the Parent/Guardian shall also sign the General Release & Waiver and be personally legally bound by such General Release & Waiver.  In the Sponsor’s sole discretion, the Prize may be awarded to the minor’s Parent/Guardian rather than the minor, which Parent/Guardian shall then sign all required documents and assume all the responsibilities of the Prize winner.
  6. Prizes and Donors: There will be a total of three (3) winners: one in each aforementioned submission categories.  Each winner will (1) receive $500 (“Prize”).
    • The Winners will be chosen on or before the following date: October 20th, 2017. To be eligible to win, entrants must have submitted their Submission by 11:59 p.m. ET on September 21, 2017. Contestants may only enter the Contest in one category and may only win one Prize.
    • Prizes may not be transferred except where expressly indicated otherwise, or with the written permission of Sponsor in their sole discretion. No other substitution may be given for a prize except as the Sponsor reserves right in their sole discretion to make a substitution, in whole or in part, for a prize of comparable or greater value. Winners are solely responsible for all taxes on Prize(s) and any expenses not specified relating to the acceptance and use of Prize(s). An IRS Form 1099 will be issued to the Winners. 
    • If a guest is a minor in his/her state of residency, the minor’s parent or legal guardian must verify and confirm his/her agreement to the General Release & Waiver and Publicity Release in order to participate in the use of any component of the Prize.
  7. Release/Publicity Consent:  As a condition to receipt of the Prize, winner agrees to sign a General Release & Waiver releasing the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, its various departments, Direct Archdiocesan District, Metropolises, and canonical parishes (the “Archdiocese”) from any and all liability whatsoever for injuries, damages or losses to persons and/or property which may be sustained in connection with the Contest or the Prize.  If the Winner is a minor in his/her state of residence, the Prize may be awarded in the name of the parent or legal guardian, in the sole discretion of Sponsor, and such Parent/Guardian will be required to fulfill all eligibility and other requirements necessary, as determined by Sponsor, to claim the Prize.  As a condition to receipt of the Prize, the Winner (or Parent/Guardian in the case of minors) may be required to sign affidavits/disclaimers and tax forms, and the winner (or Parent/Guardian in the case of minors) is responsible for any and all costs, taxes, assessments, expenses, and fees associated with the Contest and Prize award, receipt and use.  Except where prohibited by law, the Winner consents and agrees to the use of their names, city and state/country, photographs, likeness, Submission, statements, video, and voices for broadcast, marketing and promotional purposes in any media (including, without limitation, online) by Sponsor and its promotional agencies, Contest partners, designees, successors and assigns, before, during and after the Contest, without compensation or right of review, attribution, or notice, in perpetuity. The winner (or their Parent/Guardian in the case of minors) may be required by Sponsor to sign a Publicity Release (where not prohibited by law) regarding such consent as a condition to receipt of a Prize.
  8. Agreement to Official Rules: By participating in the Contest, entrant fully and unconditionally agrees to and accepts these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor (including but not limited to decisions regarding eligibility of entries, the selection of entrants and winners, and the awarding of prizes), which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest.
  9. General Conditions:  Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate, modify or suspend the Contest if, in Sponsor’s opinion, there is any suspected or actual evidence of fraud, tampering, unauthorized intervention, technical difficulties or failures, computer virus, unauthorized intervention, or any other factor beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control that may affect or impair the administration, security, fairness or integrity, or proper functioning of the Contest. Sponsor, in their sole discretion, reserve the right to disqualify any individual they finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner.  Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and/or civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, the Department reserves the right to prosecute and/or seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Sponsor’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that term or any other term in these Official Rules.  Sponsor is not responsible for incomplete, illegible, misdirected, misprinted, late, or lost entries, Submissions or Prize notifications; or for lost, interrupted, inaccessible or unavailable networks, servers, satellites, Internet service providers, websites, or other connections; or for miscommunications, failed, jumbled, scrambled, delayed or misdirected computer, telephone or cable transmissions; or for any technical malfunctions, failures, difficulties, or other errors of any kind or nature; or for the incorrect or incomplete capture of information, or the failure to capture any information.  No mechanically reproduced, illegible, incomplete, forged, software-generated or otherwise multiple entries will be accepted.  If any dispute regarding identity of any winner cannot be resolved to Sponsor’s satisfaction, that entrant/potential winner will be disqualified. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these rules shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or unenforceable provision were eliminated from the rules.
  10. Limitations of Liability: Released Parties are not responsible for: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrant, printing, typographical or other errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest; (2) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the Submission process or the Contest; (4) printing, typographical, technical, computer, network or human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest, the uploading, the processing or judging of Submissions or votes or the tabulating of votes, the announcement of the prizes or in any Contest-related materials; (5) late, lost, undeliverable, damaged or stolen mail; or (6) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant's participation in the Contest or receipt or use or misuse of any prize (including any travel/activity related thereto). Released Parties are not responsible for misdirected or undeliverable Submissions or for any technical problems, malfunctions of computer systems, servers, providers, hardware/software, lost or unavailable network connections or failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmission or any combination thereof. Released Parties are not responsible for any unauthorized third party use of any Submission.
  11. Disputes: Except where prohibited, entrant agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest or any Prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the Federal District Court of the Southern District of New York; (2) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (3) under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental, and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased.
  12. Governing Law: The Contest is governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to any choice of law provisions.  All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of the entrant and Sponsor in connection with the Contest and/or any Prize, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of New York without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of New York or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of New York.
  13. Entrant's Personal Information:  Personal information collected from video submitters to the Contest will never be sold. The information collected for this contest will only be used by Sponsor to identity and contact Contestants in direct relation to the Contest, unless you choose to opt into our mailing lists and except to the extent waived by a winner through agreement to a Publicity Release.  Winners may also be required to provide more information for purposes of complying with tax law (such as to fill out IRS Form 1099); this additional information will be immediately deleted after it is used for such tax and legal purposes.
  14. Sponsor: The Contest is sponsored and administered by the Department of Inter-Orthodox, Inter-Faith and Ecumenical Relations of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, 8 East 79th Street, New York, NY 10075.

  16. Official Rule Amendments.  Sponsor reserves the right to amend or modify these Official Rules at any time, in its sole discretion, before July 17, 2017.
