Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzos at St. Irene Chrysovalantou in Astoria

Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzos at St. Irene Chrysovalantou in Astoria

His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzos was asked by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to represent Him, for the first time as a bishop, for the feast of St. Irene Chrysovalantou at the Sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegial Monastery of St. Irene Chrysovalantou in Astoria, New York. It was fitting since St. Irene Chrysovalantou was from the historical region of Cappadocia and the sea of Nazianzos is in Cappadocia. His Grace Bishop Ierotheos of Evkarpia who is also the Abbot of the Sacred Patriarchal Monastery and the brotherhood, as well as clergy from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America participated in the Hierarchical Vespers and Divine Liturgy.
