Archbishop Demetrios to Retrieve Relics from Rubble of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church

New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America will be at the site of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church (155 Cedar Street) at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19th to retrieve the relics from the rubble of the Church which was completely demolished during the tragedy of September 11. His Eminence will be accompanied by Father John Romas, pastor of St. Nicholas Church, to recover the relics of three saints- St. Nicholas, St. Katherine and St. Sava.

Hundreds of messages of support and offers of contributions to rebuild the Church have come from throughout the world to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and St. Nicholas Church. The Church, a tiny structure located within 250 feet of Ground Zero was buried by steel girders and concrete from the collapsing towers.
