His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America Sunday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

I am truly delighted to be with you today, at this wonderful parish in New Britain, dedicated to the Τροπαιοφόρος and Great-Martyr George. On this Sunday after the Universal Exaltation of the Cross, when we continue to celebrate the “ὅπλον εἰρήνης ἀήττητον τρόπαιον,” “the weapon of peace, the invincible trophy,” the example of Saint George is especially meaningful. But now we have arrived at the Feast itself, and I am deeply gratified to be here at Κοίμησις τῆς Θεοτόκου in Brooklyn, for this annual celebration of the life that shines forth from death. In these days of sickness and struggle, we all need this affirmation, and how beautiful it is that your parish is adorned as a garden, as a spiritual garden fragrant with devotion and Orthodox piety. His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros Homily for the Service of Paraklesis

I am so very glad to be with you this evening, as we chant together the Service of Paraklesis, the Canon of Supplication to the Most Holy Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary. These services are part of our preparation for her glorious feast of the Dormition, which is approaching at the end of this week, together with the conclusion of our Fast. It seems to me most appropriate that this year the Dormition falls on a Saturday, the Sabbath, the Day of Rest. 2020 has been a difficult and challenging year for all of us. To have a spiritual respite from all that we have endured in this year’s Feast of the Κοίμησις, is both a gift and an opportunity. Read More

11, 27). My beloved Archdeacon, always hold in your mind and heart the place where you receive this grace, for it is the the holy Τόπος from which every aspect of your priesthood emanates. Read More

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros Homily for the Great Vespers of the Transfiguration

We have gathered to celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ, which happened on Mount Tabor in the presence of His Disciples: Peter, Iakovos and John. The Three Gospels that record this miraculous event agree on most of the details, but they also differ. And in their difference we learn a valuable lesson, not about how to read the Scriptures literally, but how to understand their meaning. Read More
