The Direct Archdiocesan District Office of Education held its Annual Spelling Bee Competition on Thursday 8, 2009 for the students of the parochial day schools of the metropolitan New York area. Ten school spelling bee champions participated in the District’s Competition that took place at the Archdiocesan headquarters in Manhattan. 

Jordan Massey, a seventh-grade student from the “A. Fantis” Parochial School of SS. Constantine & Helen, Brooklyn, won the first place. (On March 24, 2009, Jordan represented the Greek Orthodox parochial schools at the Daily News Spelling Bee Finals, at Hunter College in Manhattan, and won 6 th place.) 

His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America congratulated the champions and presented each student with an Award Certificate as well as a gift card from the Barnes & Nobles Bookstore. 

Mrs. Georgia Eleftheriou, the English language teacher of the “D.G.K.” Parochial Day School of Holy Cross, Brooklyn, was the word pronouncer.

Spyropoulos” School of St. Nicholas, Flushing; Thomas Marrinan, St. Spyridon Parochial School, Manhattan; Erica Eidelman, the Three Hierarchs Parochial School, Brooklyn, and Melissa Andrews, D.G.K. Parochial School of Holy Cross, Brooklyn.
