NEW YORK – His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America celebrated Epiphany, today January 6, 2018, in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Hicksville, New York. The recent snowstorm and unusually frigid temperatures in the northeast grounded and cancelled thousands of flights and as a result it was not possible for the Archbishop to travel to Tarpon Springs, the Epiphany city for the annual celebration and the dive for the Cross.

At the Holy Trinity in Hicksville, the Archbishop presided at the Divine Liturgy of the Epiphany and the Service of the Holy and Great Agiasmos, the sanctification of the waters and the blessing of the faithful with holy water. His Eminence Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh concelebrated with the Archbishop.  Also celebrating the liturgy were parish priest Fr. Theofanis Papantonis, Fr. George Stavropoulos, assistant priest and former proistamenos for many years, Archdeacon Panteleimon Papadopoulos and Deacon Eleftherios Constantine.

The service is truly a holy event during which the Holy Spirit sanctifies the water and those faithful who partake of it.
