Thirty Dance Groups Expected to Participate in "Parathosi 2017" Dance Festival

Celebrating Hellenic Culture and Heritage

New York - PARATHOSI 2017, the annual celebration of Hellenic Heritage & Dance of the Direct Archdiocesan District of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, now in its fifth year, is expected to host about 30 dance groups, Sat. Feb. 11, 2017 at Lefrak Concert Hall at Queens College.

“We want to bring our youth together and provide a platform for them to showcase their talents and pride in traditional Greek dancing. Every year we grow bigger and better. We are very encouraged with the messages we get and excited about the growth of PARATHOSI  in the coming years. We need the support of all our faithful in the Omogeneia, as this important youth ministry of our Heritage and Culture grows and expands,” said Dn. Panagiotis Papazafiropoulos, director of the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries of D.A.D.

Following a full day of the dance competition program, an Awards Dinner and Glendi will take place at Terrace on the Park, with cocktail hour starting at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate in a wonderful night of dancing and fellowship.

The dance festival is open to groups from the Metropolises of the Archdiocese and groups from the Greek-American community and associations representing various regions of Greece. The festival is organized in divisions according to age. Division 4 is for children up to 8 years old and their dance performances are not judged in competition. Division 3 is for children 9-11 years of age, division 2 is for youths 12-14, division 1 is for teenagers 15-17; and young adults 18 and over, they compete in the senior division.

The PARATHOSI 2017 Dance Festival will take place Saturday, Feb. 11, 2016, at Lefrak Concert Hall at Queens College, Reeves Avenue, in Flushing, NY and the program will begin at 10:00 a.m.  The Awards Dinner and Glendi, will take place the same evening with cocktail hour starting at 6:00 p.m., at Terrace on the Park, in Flushing N.Y.  For more information call 212-774-0412 email us at [email protected] or visit the web page www.parathosi.com
