Outreach Project
All Conference participants are encouraged to participate in these events. The participants at this years conference will be supporting two outreach programs:
The first program benefits the Rape Crisis Centers throughout the state of Connecticut.
During the Conference, we will be assembling Rape Care Packages, which will be given to assist Rape Care Counselors throughout the state, as they attend to the needs of the children who unfortunately fell victim to sexual violence. (Did you know that 30% of the victims seen at sexual assault crisis services in the State of Connecticut are under the age of 18?)
The Second Outreach Program will benefit the Connecticut Coalition Again Domestic Violence. Participants of the conference are asked to please bring used/old cell phones along with their chargers to the Conference. These phones will be collected and sent to the C.C.A.D.V., where they will be pre-programmed to only dial 911. The intention is to have the shelters and the counselors of battered women distribute the phones. These phones are tools, they are access to help! Our hope is that they will provide a means for these women to get help when they so desperately need it. (Did you know that there were over 23,000 domestic abuse arrests during 1999 in the State of Connecticut alone? This does not include the thousands of other incidents that never reach the level of an arrest.)
