Fr. Apostolos Georgiafentis Elevated to Protopresbyter of Ecumenical Throne

Chicago--As the sun set on the Feast of the Annunciation, Father Apostolos Georgiafentis was honored as a Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne in recognition of his 35 years of dedicated ministry on Friday evening at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago's West Side. At the conclusion of the vespers-salutations service, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, bestowed the special priestly rank, properly called an ‘offikion,’ upon Father Apostolos on behalf of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I. It is the highest priestly rank that may be extended to a married clergyman. Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago and His Grace Bishop Timothy of Hexamilion were also present for the occasion, which concluded Archbishop Elpidophoros’ three day visit to the Metropolis of Chicago.
