Archbishop Elpidophoros Visits Delaware, Presented with Key to the City of Wilmington

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America was presented with the Key to the City of Wilmington, Delaware by Mayor Michael Purzycki on Sunday, May 23, 2021 during a pastoral visit to Holy Trinity Church.  In addition to this honor, His Eminence was met by the Governor of Delaware John Carney and presented a gift of his Enthronement Medallion containing an icon of the Hospitality of Abraham to him.

During the weekend visit, the Archbishop toured the community’s Odyssey Charter School as well as the parish’s expansion project. At the conclusion of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, His Eminence tonsured fifteen young altar servers and blessed several young ladies who serve the church as well. 

During a luncheon following the Divine Liturgy, State Senators Spiros Mantzavinos and S. Elizabeth Lockman presented Archbishop Elpidophoros with a moving Senate Tribute from the 151st General Assembly on the occasion of his First State visit.  The Tribute reads, Archbishop Elpidophoros has distinguished himself through his faith filled efforts in promoting ecumenical dialogue and social justice.  Truly he continues to touch and enrich numerous lives along his way. 

Also in attendance to welcome the Archbishop to Delaware were US Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester, Wilmington City Councilwoman Bregetta Fields, and Assemblyman Gerald Brady. US Senator Chris Coons was unable to attend however he sent a letter, which was presented, to mark the occasion.
