A Message from the High Council for Greek Education and The Office of Greek Education on The International Greek Language Day
On the occasion of the established celebration of the International Day of the Greek Language, February 9, the day of remembrance of our National poet Dionysios Solomos, we consider it a great honor, joy, and obligation to address all those who teach the Greek language and culture in throughout the country.
In this country where we have taken root, here, where all the races of the world come together, we have worked diligently to retain our identity, faith, and language, so that we are not shaken in the whirlpool of assimilation. And so far, we have not, because we understand the value of our heritage, the value of our language.
The great Palamas had said "Keep the banners for our Mother Tongue!" And you all have surely held those banners and have fought unceasingly in our parish schools and programs. Thank you for all of the tremendous work you do every day! You are at the forefront in the struggle for "the Beautiful, the Great and the True", to give our children the tools necessary to begin their own journey in life and to become the ideal ambassadors of the Greek Spirit!
The High Council for Greek Education and the Office of Greek Education of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, under the guidance of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, congratulate you and thank you for the tremendous task you are doing.
Please accept our warm wishes for this glorious Greek Language Day.
