Since 2013, master iconographer Dimitrios Mourlas has been an integral part of the Ionian Village experience, partnering with the camp to bring the beauty of iconography to life in their chapel. His stunning work has transformed the sacred space, enriching participants’ connection to faith through faith. This year, Mourlas added icons of Saints Alexandros, Konstantine, Ephrosyne, Panagia Eleousa, Filaretos, Alexios, Fotini, and Philothea.
Not only does Mourlas leave his mark on the chapel walls, however, but he also visits each Ionian Village session to share his expertise and passion with campers. Through his hands-on workshops, they learn the timeless art of iconography, discovering the spiritual depth and craftsmanship behind each brushstroke.
Ionian Village is the official summer camping ministry of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, where campers and staff embark on a unique journey to deepen their understanding of Orthodox Faith and Hellenic Culture. At Ionian Village, they also have the incredible opportunity to connect with like-minded peers from all corners of the country. Teens and young adults create unforgettable memories during their time here, forming bonds and friendships that endure a lifetime. Since 1970, more than 20,000 campers have become part of a 53-year-old tradition dedicated to building "Faith and friendships that last a lifetime."
