Department of Greek Education Announces the Return of the Archdiocesan District Children’s Choir
The Office of Greek Education is pleased to announce the return of the Archdiocesan District Children's Choir. His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, expressed his desire to re-establish the youth choir program. With his spiritual guidance, his deep love for children and the Greek language, the Archdiocesan Youth Choir will return this Fall 2021. This program was made possible by the generosity of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and Leadership 100.
The choir will consist of children who attend district parish day, afternoon and Sunday school programs. The purpose of this program is to help young people of Hellenic heritage and of the Orthodox faith embrace their culture and achieve their potential as musicians and as individuals with high canons of excellence.
The choir will be under the direction of Mr. Theodore Alvanos. Mr. Alvanos is a music teacher, conductor and pianist. He started piano lessons at the age of 6. He continued his piano studies and theory at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki. He received his Bachelors degree from the Music Science and Art University of Macedonia and his Master degree from the City University of New York. He has been nominated with awards in International Competitions such as the N. Skalkotta Award (2010). He has also performed with State Orchestra of Thessaloniki (2014), Thessaloniki's Symphony Orchestra (2013), Symphony Orchestra of the MSA University of Macedonia (2013), as well as Sinfonietta Orchestra in Athens (2013).
Audition Requirements:
- Children must be between the ages of 7 and 17.
- Prior musical training is not necessary to participate.
Audition Process
- Audition Video (E-mail) Send a video singing a free choice song.
Zoom Audition
- Sign up for a private Zoom audition with the conductor. You will be sent a Zoom invitation for a 5-minute Zoom audition.
