College Year in Athens
We would like to share with you the news of an exciting initiative that is ideal for Greek-American high-school graduates who elected, or were forced to, forgo their freshman fall semester due to COVID-19.
College Year in Athens (CYA) introduces the Fall 2020 Gap Program, Learning from the Ancients: a Hands-on Approach to Life from the Ancient Times to Today's Healthy Living, that explores the relationship between ancient Greek practices and modern-day health and wellness via hands-on, experiential learning.
Through excavating in the Athenian seaside suburb of Voula, exploring modern Athens, and tending the Hippocrates Garden, member of Club Unesco, on the island of Kos, one gains an understanding of both the ancient and modern. Additionally, there will be Greek language, culture, dance, and culinary workshops but also trips to the Peloponnese and Delphi. All safety and health protocols regarding COVID-19 will be strictly observed. We expect that the Gap Semester program will be offered again in the Spring and in the years to come.
College Year in Athens (CYA) is a non-profit educational institution, which, since 1962, provides American undergraduates the transformative experience to study in Athens and familiarize themselves with the Greek culture. CYA, with almost 60 years of history, has been promoting Hellenism in American academia and producing philhellenes, spiritual friends of Greece, many of whom are active academics on Greek subjects in colleges and universities in the USA. Many Greek-American students have selected Athens and CYA as their study abroad destination in order to deepen their ties with Greece. For some, this is their first experience of Greece, and it is a powerful one!
