Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzos Joins Association of Chiotes for Feast Day Celebrations of Saint Markella
On Sunday, July 17, 2022, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America was represented by Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzos at the festivities of the Association of Chiotes at the St. Markella Chapel in upper-state New York. Bishop Athenagoras celebrated Divine Liturgy with Fr. Vasilios Louros, and the night before, they celebrated Vespers with Fr. George Kazoulis. It was a memorable and blessed feast to honor the Patron Saint of Chios, Saint Markella, with beautiful services and a traditional Greek paniyiri (festival). Saint Markella was born and lived in Chios, and miracles continue to occur during the commemoration services for the Saint at the place of her martyrdom.
