Archdiocese Celebrates the Three Hierarchs and Greek Letters

NEW YORK – The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America will mark January 30th, the Feast of the Three Hierarchs St. Basil the Great, St. Gregory the Theologian and St. John Chrysostom and will celebrate the Day of Greek Letters with various events in Parishes and Metropolises around the country.
On the day of the feast, Thursday Jan. 30, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America will officiate at the Divine Liturgy at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of Holy Trinity (319 East 74 Street) in Manhattan. Also praying at the Divine Liturgy will be His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania. The Liturgy is offered particularly for the administrators, teachers, and students of the New York City parochial day schools. The Archbishop will address the students on the life and works of the Three Hierarchs and the importance of our Greek Orthodox faith and heritage. A reception will follow in the adjacent Cathedral Center, and the Archbishop will cut the Vassilopita for the teachers and administrators.
That same evening Jan. 30 at 6:00 p.m., a celebration will be held at the Metropolitan Club, (One East, 60th Street, NYC) which will start with a reception and will be followed by a lecture by His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durrës and all Albania. The topic of the lecture is: In Line with the Fathers: The Dynamic Understanding of the Tradition of the Three Hierarchs. This event is open to the public, but reservations are required due to limited seating.

On Saturday February 1, at 5:00 p.m., Archbishop Demetrios during a special Awards Ceremony, will present the Three Hierarchs Awards of Excellence to the students who excelled in the Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek in June 2013. The ceremony will take place inside the Cathedral of Holy Trinity (319 East 74 Street) in Manhattan. Yanna Darilis, executive producer, and host of NEW GREEK TV will address the students on the importance of learning the Greek language.
Following the Awards Ceremony, a festive musical program dedicated to the renowned Greek author Alexandros Papadiamantis (1851-1911), who has been known as the saint of Greek literature, will take place at the Cathedral Center, featuring actors Martha Tomboulidou, Diodoros Paroudis, and chanter Tony Badran as well as the Student Choir of St. Demetrios School of Astoria under the direction of Vagelis Chaziroglou.
