PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release:

RELIGIOUS LEADERS JOIN ARCHBISHOP SPYRIDON IN FORGIVENESS SUNDAY VESPERS AT HOLY CROSS CHAPEL

New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, presided at Forgiveness Sunday Vespers at the Chapel of Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology, Brookline,MA on Sunday evening, March 1.

Present at the Vespers, the Vigil of the beginning of the Great Lent for Orthodox Christians, were Cardinal Bernard Law, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Boston; Dr. Rodney Peterson, president of the Boston Theological Institute (BTI), of which Holy Cross is a full member, and the Rev. Dr. Diane Kessler, president of the Massachusetts Council of Churches.

Participating in the Service were His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Aneon, Presiding Hierarch of the Diocese of Boston; His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah of Proikonisos, president of HC/HC , and the faculty and students of HC/HC.

This most beautiful service in the Orthodox Church concludes as the faithful approach the celebrant and one another, asking mutual forgiveness. It is with this gesture of reconciliation that we signal our desire to be reconciled with God, this being the aim and objective of the forty day Lenten fast.
