PRESBYTERS’ COUNCIL CITES UNITY OF CHURCH AS CRUCIAL TO PROGRESS OF ORTHODOXY IN AMERICA

New York, NY - The Archdiocesan Presbyters’ Council, meeting March 4th and 5th at the Archdiocese.....”cited that the unity of the Church in America is crucial for the continued formation and development and application of Orthodoxy in America. It is essential that the Archdiocese remain united in its resolve for further progress. Over the past century, they continued,”countless clergy and laity were instrumental in establishing the church’s presence, order and unity.”

The Presbyters’ Council, led by Father Christopher Metropulos of Fort Lauderdale,FL, consists of 22 clergymen representing all dioceses in the United States. During their meetings they had the opportunity to hear from the Chancellor, Father George Passias; Clergy-Laity Coordinator Father Gabriel Karambis,and Father Constantine Monios on inter-faith marriages as the challenge of the next millennium.

His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon hosted a luncheon for the presbyters during which several topics were discussed including: The celebration of the Orthodox Christian Third Millennium, parish life and its relationship to monastic life, the rebaptism of converts to the faith and Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology. It was also announced that His Eminence would spend an evening with the clergy families at the Clergy-Laity Congress,as well as meeting on the final day with the clergy. Further, a forum will be held by the Benefits’ office to discuss the overall health and pension plans of the clergy.
