PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release:

August 14, 1998

NEW PRESIDENT OF HELLENIC COLLEGE/

HOLY CROSS SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY

NEW YORK - The Corporate Board of Hellenic College/Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology met at the Archdiocese headquarters yesterday, and elected the Very Rev. Archimandrite Damaskinos V. Ganas as the new President of the Institution. This action followed extensive interviews with each of the leading candidates for the position, as considered by the Presidential Search Committee, which was headed by Mr. George Behrakis, the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees. Before retiring into closed session for the election of the President and Board of Trustees, the Corporate Board expressed their thanks to the Search Committee and commended their diligent and thorough work, as well as their dedication to a fair and reasoned process.

The Corporate Board reviewed assessments of each candidate, all of whom were considered to be most worthy, capable and excellent candidates. The vote was unanimous for Archimandrite Damaskinos V. Ganas to become the new President of Hellenic College/Holy Cross. (A brief biographical portrait of Father Ganas is appended to this press release). The new President will commence his duties on August 15, 1998 and his official installation will take place on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, September 14, 1998.
