Archbishop Spyridon Issues Statement on Death of

CONSTANTINE DELIGIANNIS, Orthodox Observer Director

New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, has announced with great sadness the passing early this morning at home of Constantine Deligiannis, 52, Director and Executive Editor of the Orthodox Observer, following a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife Despina and two sons, Dimitrios and Sergio.

His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon released the following statement:

“We are all deeply grieved at the passing of Costa. He was a valuable member of our Archdiocese family and will be sorely missed. He performed his duties at the Orthodox Observer with great devotion and diligence. At this time of their grief, our prayers and thoughts are with his wife, Despina, and his children. May his memory be eternal.”

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, August 28th at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, in Flushing, N.Y.

Mr. Deligiannis joined the Orthodox Observer, the newspaper of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, as business manager and Greek section editor in April, 1989. In August, 1995 , he was named Director, Managing Editor and Greek Press Officer. Mr. Deligiannis previously worked as vice president of Petallides Publishing and editor of its Greek language newspaper, PROINI. He had also worked as translator/foreign news editor of the Greek language National Herald.

A native of Greece, he was a graduate of Athens College and studied at the Panteios School of Political Science before immigrating to the United States in 1983.
