NEW YORK.- The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America categorically denies the false and irresponsible rumors circulated on the Internet regarding the tenure of His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon. The Department of Communications has learned directly from sources in the Ecumenical Patriarchate at the Phanar that these rumors are baseless and absolutely false. The Archdiocese of America regrets that any individual would choose to disturb the conscience of the faithful with irresponsible lies such as this.

At this time His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon is leading the largest delegation of Archons of the Ecumenical Throne in history on a pilgrimage to the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the holy sites of Constantinople. During these same days His Eminence is attending the biennial Synaxis (convocation) of ruling Hierarchs of the Ecumenical Patriarchate held in the Phanar concurrently with the celebrations of the Ecclesiastical New Year on September 1.
