National Philoptochos Contributes $50,000 to Seminarian Scholarship Fund
Oct 1, 1998
New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, announced at the Fall meeting of the Archdiocesan Council and National Board of Philoptochos on September 26th, a contribution of $50,000 from the National Philoptochos to the Scholarship Fund for Seminarians.
Archbishop Spyridon had established the Scholarship Fund, designated to eventually assist every Seminarian of the Archdiocese, at the Spring meeting of the Archdiocesan Council this year.
Ever mindful of its responsibility to this most important ministry of the Archdiocese, the members of Philoptochos from parishes nationwide have, since 1985, raised over $1,300,000 for Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology -- $659,641 for scholarships and $643,000 raised through the annual Lenten Collection.
