Mar 31, 1999
PHOENIX, Ariz. (March 28, 1999) Nearly 1,000 young adults from across the United States are expected in Phoenix this July 4th weekend for the 17th Annual Archdiocesan Young Adult League Conference.
The conference will be packed with four full days of energetic dances and events, intriguing workshops with original topics and of course plenty of sparkling pools to enjoy that Arizona sunshine.
The conference theme is "Journey to the Son" which will be carried through every aspect of the weekend. The workshops will focus on the continuing journey young adults face as we strive toward salvation and how to overcome common obstacles through Orthodoxy.
The night-time activities include a Reggae dance on Thursday night, a grand banquet and Greek Glendi on Friday, a Comedy show on Saturday and a Fourth of July Country-Western dance and cookout at an old, authentic western town on Sunday.
On Monday, participants will have the opportunity to go on one of several out-of-town excursions. St. Anthonys Monastery is one of the countrys few Orthodox Monasteries and is located in Florence, Arizona. This beautiful and holy place provides peace and serenity to those who visit it. For those who choose to head to the great outdoors, Sedona and the Grand Canyon are both breathtaking adventures and are easy trips from Phoenix.
"All the Greater Phoenix area young adults are excited to be hosting this years national conference and we have been working hard to put together a fun and spiritually fulfilling weekend," said Sandy Meris, national conference chairperson. "Our goal was to put together some really moving and motivating workshops while adding some exciting and unique activities that everybody will enjoy."
Another great aspect of this conference is the host hotel. The Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa is one of Arizonas most notable and prestigious properties known as the "Jewel in the Desert." The resort was designed as a luxurious hideaway, quietly tucked away beneath tons of flowers and trees all while located in the heart of Phoenix. Just around the corner are some of Phoenixs most popular hot spots including the Hard Rock Café, Planet Hollywood, Houstons Restaurant and the Biltmore Fashion Parks dozens of upscale shops, boutiques and restaurants.
The Biltmore has given conference attendees a special group room rate of $105 for a single/double occupancy and $115 for a triple/quad occupancy. The conference registration fee is $225 per person for early registration by May 15.
