Archbishop Demetrios Receives Assistant Secretary of State Grossman

New York, NY - This morning, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, met with the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Canadian Affairs, Mr. Marc Grossman at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.
During their meeting, The Archbishop and Mr. Grossman exchanged thoughts on a number of issues including the re-opening of the Halki Theological School and efforts to move forward on the Cyprus issue.
Yesterday, Archbishop Demetrios also received His Excellency, Mr. Glafcos Clerides, President of the Republic of Cyprus. During that meeting, Mr. Clerides informed Archbishop Demetrios about meetings at the United Nations concerning efforts to solve the Cyprus issue.
On Monday September 20, 1999, Archbishop Demetrios welcomed the Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece, Mr. Gregoris Niotis. Archbishop Demetrios characterized this meeting as one of "substance," placing great emphasis on the earthquake victims in Greece, and on the urgency of this situation.
In an expression of deep love and concern, Archbishop Demetrios, at the conclusion of the meeting, presented the deputy foreign minister with a gift in the amount of $100,000, on behalf of Leadership 100, to aid victims of the recent earthquake in Greece.
