His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will be awarded the United Nations Environment Programmes 2005 Champions of the Earth Award. The Ecumenical Patriarch has been recognized for his outstanding achievements in the Field of the Environment. One of the seven international recipients of this years award, His All Holiness receives the award for his initiatives in the field of the environment which have earned him the title Green Patriarch.
Representing His All Holiness, and accepting the award on his behalf, will be His Eminence Demetrios of America, Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church in America and Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The Award Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 7:30 pm at the Delegates Dining Room, United Nations Headquarters, 46th Street at First Avenue, New York City.
