On this day we recognize the history, accomplishments, and ongoing service of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association and the members of the AHEPA family.

Archimandrite Cleopas Strongylis Elected Metropolitan of Sweden
The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople elected unanimously today the Very Reverend Archimandrite Cleopas Strongylis Metropolitan of Sweden and All Scandinavia. His Grace Metropolitan elect Cleopas Strongylis has been serving as the Dean of the Annunciation Cathedral in Boston, Massachusetts.
Archdiocesan Council Spring Meeting Convened in Washington, DC
The Archdiocesan Council of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America convened for its regular spring meeting May 1-2 in Washington, DC, under the chairmanship of Archbishop Demetrios of America. Present at the meeting were Metropolitans Methodios of Boston and Savas of Pittsburgh and Bishops Andonios of Phasiane and Sevastianos of Zela. The other members of the Synod, absent from the meeting, were unable to attend.

Reorganization of Orthodox Episcopal Assemblies in the Americas
During the Holy Synaxis of the Primates of the Orthodox Churches, which took place in Constantinople on March 6-9, 2014, the Prelates, through a unanimous vote, agreed to form separate Assemblies of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in Canada and in the United States of America. They further agreed to incorporate the hierarchs of Central America into the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of Latin America.

Continued Support for Relief Work in the Philippines
The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America continues to support recovery efforts in the Philippines. Through a recent $40,000 grant to the International Orthodox Christian Charities, the Archdiocese will finance a home reconstruction and agriculture assistance project.
