Feast of the Three Hierarchs and Celebration of Greek Letters

New York, NY - In observance of the Feast of the Three Hierarchs and in celebration of Greek Letters and Culture, under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, the Archdiocese Department of Greek Education has announced several events which will take place from January 27-30, 2007.
Following is the schedule of events in metropolitan New York area.
Saturday, January 27- 4:30 p.m.
His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios will bestow The Three Hierarchs Award of Excellence on the students who achieved a score of 100 in the 2006 Comprehensive Examination of Modern Greek. The ceremony will be held in the Archdiocesan Holy Trinity Cathedral Center (337 East 74th Street). The program will include remarks by Professor John Spiridakis and will conclude with a musical presentation by the Archdiocesan Metropolitan Youth Choir featuring soloist Alexandra Skendros.
Sunday, January 28- 5:00 p.m.
His Eminence will cut the traditional Vasilopita in honor of the administrators and teachers of the day and afternoon Greek American schools at Saint Demetrios Cathedral School, (30-11 30th Drive, Astoria). Principals, teachers, school board and PTA board members are invited to attend and receive the blessings of the Archbishop. The program will include remarks by Dr. George Melikokis, and readings of Greek poems and selected prose by students of various Greek American Schools and a musical presentation by the choir of the St. Demetrios Greek American School.
Tuesday, January 30, The Feast Day of the Three Hierarchs
Divine Liturgy -9:30 a.m.
His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios will preside at the Divine Liturgy for principals, teachers and students of the Greek American Day Schools (grades 5-12) at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity (319 E.74th Street) in celebration of the Feast Day of the Three Hierarchs. Members of the Choir of the Holy Cross School of Theology of Brookline, MA, will chant at the Divine Liturgy.
6:00 p.m. Lecture and Musical Program
The celebration of Greek Letters will culminate with a Lecture and a Musical Program at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Center beginning at 6:00 p.m. The lecture titled "St. John Chrysostom and His Accusers" will be given by Dr. George Bebis, Professor of Patristics Emeritus at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. The program will conclude with a musical program by Eleni Kalenos, soloist and pianist John Potamousis.
