Looking For God in Popular Culture
This workshop will look at the ways - reverent and otherwise - in which God, Christ and the Church are presented in popular culture. It will consider films such as "The Passion of the Christ," books like "The DaVinci Code" and the "Left Behind" series, television shows such as "The Simpsons," "The Sopranos," and "South Park," and Christian rock and hip-hop music. By participating in pop culture, do we as Orthodox Christians run the risk of entertaining ourselves to death? Or can something good come out of our critical engagement with it?
