Family Based Parish
Recent studies conclude that the American family is in a state of operational exigency. Data reveals that the sanctity of marriage and family is in a precarious state of spiritual free-fall. Christian concepts like family, marriage, commitment, faith, church, righteousness, and sacrifice have been distorted. As a result of the de-construction of important societal narratives the last 50 years have seen marked increases in juvenile delinquency, discipline problems in school, crime, sexual diseases, unwanted pregnancies, drug use, and suicide! Knowing that marriage and the family constitute one of the most precious of human values, parish programming should be developed to help those who are already aware of the value of marriage and the family and seek to live it faithfully and to those who are uncertain and anxious and searching for the truth. This workshop will examine the process of implementing a family-based parish catechetical program that will assist Orthodox families ward off societal distortions.
