Programs & Publications

The Department of Religious Education is about more than just "Sunday School"—we're committed to providing lifetime learning resources to equip the saints. This commitment is brought to life in the department's wide range of results-driven programs and initiatives. These initiatives are listed below and include brief descriptions and links to online resources.

Resource Catalog

The department publishes an Orthodox Christian Resource Catalog every two years. The 2006-2008 catalog includes more than 700 resources for adults, teachers, youth workers, parish youth, vacation church school programs, children’s books, prayer books, multimedia resources, icons, gifts and more. The catalog is mailed to all clergy, Church School directors/teachers and individuals on the department's mailing list.

The 2006-2008 catalog is now available online. Download a copy today.

Please note: To place orders from this catalog, please call the Department of Religious Education at 800-566-1088.

PRAXIS Magazine

The department publishes PRAXIS, a periodic magazine that links the local parish, home and national Religious Education department. The magazine’s format focuses on “total parish education” and includes catechetical material, religious home school lessons, leadership development, Internet reviews, and continuing education for Greek Orthodox Christians of all ages. A four-issue subscription is $15.00 (U.S.).

Interactive Multimedia Projects

Interactive multimedia are computer-based presentations that provide a rich educational opportunity that can be used by anyone at any time. The department has completed several interactive CD-ROMs, and several more are currently in production.

Our Interactive Multimedia offerings now include two recent releases:

  • Our fourth interactive multimedia CD-ROM: Crown Them With Glory and Honor: The Orthodox Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. This CD explores the sacrament of marriage and includes many advanced features.
  • Our first online multimedia program: Learn Byzantine Chant. This project teaches Byzantine hymns and includes extensive information about twenty-one of the Orthodox Church's most important feasts.
