WORSHIP

We are commanded to worship not on special days, but continuously—all our life through, and in all possible ways.
– St. Clement of Alexandria

Worship is so much more than standing in Church on Sunday. It involves seeing, smelling, hearing, tasting, touching—using all of our senses to actively participation in the services of the Church. We worship not only during the Divine Liturgy, but also in Vespers, Paraklesis, Compline and all of the many rich services of the Orthodox Church. Yet worship is not confined to the walls of the Church—it needs to be a part of our homes, our workplaces, our schools, and our hearts.

Ways to build on worship

  • Learn more about the Divine Liturgy and how to be an active participant. Consider reading Living the Liturgy by Fr. Stanley Harakas to guide you in the process. Commit to attending the services of the Church and learning more about the entire cycle of worship.

  • Commit to having regular family prayer time in the home. If you don’t have an iconostasion, create one so the family has a special place to gather for prayers. Keep a list of people to remember in your prayers and invite everyone to add to the list as needed.

  • Consult with your spiritual father or parish priest to guide your family’s prayer life both in the Church and in the home.
