THE GREEK ORTHODOX PAROCHIAL DAY SCHOOLS IN NEW YORK

“A. Fantis” School of SS Constantine and Helen, Brooklyn

There are 9 Greek Orthodox parochial day schools operating within the vicinity of the Direct Archdiocesan District with an enrollment of 2,127 students for the current school year, 2011-2012. The day schools employ 44 teachers of the Modern Greek language and culture.

The parochial day schools maintain pre-school centers, kindergartens, elementary and junior high school grades. The St. Demetrios Cathedral, Astoria, is the only community in the United States that sustains a high school.

The day schools adhere to the New York State mandates regarding curricula and student assessment as well as follow the regulations of the New York City Department of Education. They offer an academic program of high standards that incorporates the teaching of the Greek Orthodox faith and the universal Hellenic ideals, customs, and traditions.

AFTERNOON/SATURDAY GREEK LANGUAGE SCHOOLS

Greek School of the Holy Resurrection, Brookville

There were 47 Greek afternoon/Saturday schools in operation during the school year 2010-2011 in the Direct Archdiocesan District with an enrollment of 3,565 students and 201 teachers serving.
