in a state of operational exigency. Data reveals that the sanctity of
marriage and family is in a precarious state of spiritual free-fall.
Christian concepts like family, marriage, commitment, faith, church,
righteousness, and sacrifice have been distorted. As a result of the
de-construction of important societal narratives the last 50 years have
seen marked increases in juvenile delinquency, discipline problems in
school, crime, sexual diseases, unwanted pregnancies, drug use, and
suicide! Knowing that marriage and the family constitute one of the
most precious of human values, parish programming should be developed
to help those who are already aware of the value of marriage and the
family and seek to live it faithfully and to those who are uncertain
and anxious and searching for the truth. This workshop will examine the
process of implementing a family-based parish catechetical program that
will assist Orthodox families ward off societal distortions.

learning in Sunday School, Bible classes, summer camps enough? Of
course, every little bit helps. But the heart of the matter is that we
need to bring spirituality into our lives. How? Participants will learn
how we can look within ourselves and find our true destiny, what is
most valuable and eternal.

faithful Orthodox Christians strike a balance between responsibilities
of family, Church, business and community? This workshop will explore

The Honorable Sechan Siv, United States Mission to the United Nations
Moderator, Mrs. Lila Prounis, Rep. of the Archdiocesan Council to the United Nations
Moderator, Mr. Paul Zamora, Rep. of the Archdiocesan Council to the United Nations
Description: Many countries are involved in the sale of women
and children who have been sexually exploited for prostitution and
pornographic purposes. This is incompatible with the dignity and worth
of human persons and endangers the welfare of the individual, the
family, and the community. The United Nations is working with
governments to develop and implement anti-trafficking initiatives.
Religious communities should also help in this effort. The United
States has warned its citizens that it is not only the women and
children smuggled into the United States, but also American-born women
and children who are being kidnapped and enslaved by criminal elements.
It is becoming a problem of crisis proportion.

Developing a Parish Strategic Plan for Religious Education
Date: 7/28/2004
Location: Majestic/Music Box
Category: Religious Education
Time: 1:00:00 PM - 2:00:00 PM
Presenters: Rev. Dr. Frank Marangos, Director - Archdiocese Dept. of Religious Education
Description: Change our Sunday School program? Why would we ever
want to do that? This is one of the most common--and
frustrating--questions catechetical leaders encounter. Clergy, Sunday
School directors, teachers, and missionaries are typically zealous for
excellence in education, and this calls for change at one point or
another. The change might involve the need for a new curriculum, a
different teacher, or a new meeting place. Whatever the reason, change
holds the promise of progress and better meeting people's needs.
Parishioners, however, may be threatened by change and its perceived
disruptions. Many people thrive on the familiar and the routine. They
love traditions and "the way we've always done things." This workshop
will examine the process of developing a successful change strategy
based on a three-part philosophy and a five-step strategy. When all
eight of these ingredients fall into place, the result is a potent
formula for ministry success.
